SMOOTH PATH TO STUDIES OVERSEAS

STUDYLINK is an education adviser representing five countries, namely, Australia, Britain, the United States, New Zealand and Malaysia.

It is one of the oldest in the field of providing education advice to students and parents to help them in choosing the right course and pathway.

It also has the distinction of being the first company to be appointed as marketing consultants and representatives of almost all well-established Malaysian colleges like Monash University, Taylor’s, Metropolitan, Sedaya, KDU, Nilai and APIIT to name a few.

Conveniently located in Subang Jaya near Taylor’s College, the centre facilitates the smooth transition of Malaysian students to the overseas colleges and universities of their choice.

Studylink Sdn Bhd managing director and senior consultant Tony Tan said: “We are also officially appointed by a number of reputable universities in Australia such as University of Western Australia, Curtin University of Technology, RMIT, Monash University, University of South Australia, Wollongong University and others including private and public schools or colleges in other parts of Australia.  Our job is to counsel and assist in the applications and enrolments of students interested in studying in Australia.”

“Many students are not aware that choosing the right colleges, universities and areas of study greatly increases their chances of securing a good job upon their return to Malaysia.

“As such, only after counseling sessions with both students and parents and ensuring he or she is confident of her choice, be it the university, courses, fees, etc, does the application proceed.

“Student should be aware that the right pathway should be choosing the right course and then the university and not the other way around as well known universities may not be the best in every course,” he said.

Studylink handles everything from A to Z in the process of enrolling a student.

It helps students in the application forms for admission, and after deciding which institution to go to, Studylink will send over the initial tuition fee to the colleges and universities of their choice.

After that, arrangements for student visa and accommodation are arranged along with flight arrangements and airport reception.

Tan said: “A pre-departure briefing is always given to each and every new student so that they will be aware of what to expect in terms of cultural differences, clothing, weather and services offered in the university and country.

“We can even help parents to open multiple currency bank accounts in Malaysia.

“This way, parents are able to hedge the funds when the exchange rates are in their favour and remit funds to them immediately when necessary, and both parents and students save the hassle of going through the banking process without losing due to currency fluctuations.”

Studylink also help students transfer credits for studies done in local colleges and Tan has this advice for students: “Many times, students may take a certain programme with local colleges and not be aware of whether they are able to transfer all credits for studies done.  With our representation and extensive knowledge of courses conducted at the local colleges, we are able to guide a student accurately from the beginning and ensure their studies can be completed in the minimum possible time thus saving time and money.

Also, when it comes to English requirements, may universities now accept the GCE 1119 standards for students who have a C6 credit.  Students do not need to take the IELTS or TOEFL Test then, thus saving more money,” said Tan.

On a final note, Tan said: “ Students interested in furthering their studies overseas should apply as soon as possible so that the process will be smooth and they have time to adjust to what is required.”

He also encouraged students and working adults to consider post-graduate studies to further enhance their job prospects.

Studylink, with its head office in Subang Jaya, has branches in Perak, Penang and Johor,  It is currently holding “The Australian Education Fair” which started on Sept 26 and ends on Oct 3 and covers the length of Peninsular Malaysia.  The fair is held from 1pm to 6pm at different venues in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya, Penang, Taiping, Ipoh and Johor Baru.

University and college representatives will be on hand to answer and counsel students on options.

A number of scholarship opportunities are available for eligible students.
